Ambient Ljubljana Opens Next Week

24. 9. 2013
Ambient Ljubljana – the furniture fair

1 – 6 October 2013, GR - Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre

The biggest exhibition of furniture with latest trends in the region between Milan and Vienna will be held at the GR in the first week of October. From the 1st till the 6th October, 209 companies from 21 countries will present themselves at the 24th Ambient Ljubljana fair.

This year, a special emphasis is placed on Italian design: on the first day with the round table Experience Italian design with the renowned designer and architect Simone Micheli, and with a special exhibition of well-known Italian designer brands throughout the fair.

On the first day, there will be the traditional granting of prizes and awards. The GR grants the award Top Ten and the Top of the Top Ten for products or systemic solutions which best combine functionality with technological and/or aesthetic quality. There will also be awards for the three most aesthetic stands as well as for the best achievements by young designers.

Exhibited programs, presenting all kinds of furniture, lighting, decorative textiles, various accessories etc., are given an added value by complementary thematic exhibitions. The Wood Processing and Furniture Association at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Slovenia has organized professional meetings together with partners.

The fair will be officially opened by Janko Veber, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.

Last year, the fair had 34,000 visitors. 'A good third of people look for a specific piece of furniture, and almost one half is interested in the last trends in furniture industry in Slovenia. And all of them find something for themselves. An idea, an exceptional prototype... an inspiration,' says Stane Kavčič, Head of the Furniture Fair Ambient Ljubljana. The fair enables a direct contact, a free flow of information on several levels - among the creators of furniture, representatives of the industry, and customers.

Experience Italian design

The honorary sponsor of the 24th Ambient Ljubljana - the furniture fair is the Agency ICE Ljubljana, the Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy for economic promotion. Italian design is introduced at the fair as part of Italian Festival 2013, which promotes and presents Italian brands Made in Italy in Slovenia.

Due to its innovative creativity, Italian design has determined global guidelines in projecting and left an indelible trace in design. The genius of Italian architects and designers has combined with the trade knowledge and skills of Italian producers which have, in constant search for materials, forms and technologies, persistently invested in product innovation to improve them and bring them to perfection. The result is smart and lasting design.

Exhibited are some of the furniture items by Italian brands such as Emu, Foscarini, Infiniti by Omp Group, Kartell, Molteni, Moroso, Poliform, and Prandina, which are already selling in major furniture stores in Ljubljana, as well as the brands Adrenalina, SchönhuberFranchi, and Valsecchi, which are presented on Slovenian market for the first time.

The round table discussion Experience Italian design

Tuesday, 1st October 2013, at 5 PM, Urška Hall

The guest of the round table is Simone Micheli, a Tuscany architect and interior designer who has won global recognition and numerous awards. Simone Micheli has ample experience in designing for important Italian furnishings brands. His vast portfolio consists of examples of interior and project design as well as wellness centres in Europe and elsewhere.

Professor at the Polidesign and Politechnical School for Design in Milano, Simone Micheli has since 1990s originally presented a unique vision of architecture, interior and visual design through a communication of innovative forms with soft, rounded curves, various colours and brave creativity.

His creations are sustainable and environmentally friendly. They are marked with a distinctive identity, uniqueness and strict use of ecological materials. His architecture is built almost exclusively by Italian companies. Micheli's works tell stories about 'italianness', beauty, uniqueness and excellence. Encompassing all senses, his creativity is a result of an extraordinary bonding with his landscape, its fragrances and tales, and his predecessors Michelangelo Buonarroti, Leonardo Da Vinci, Masaccio, and Piero della Francesca, whose heroic deeds, original combinations of colours and contents became part of his genetic code.

The architect Robert Klun, president of the Designers Society of Slovenia, will also participate in the discussion, hosted by Nada Vodušek. The event will be held in Italian and Slovenian languages with simultaneous translation.

Youth, art and design

With the exchange of design by young designers - Top Ideas, the fourth this year, the GR makes a significant contribution to asserting designer profession in development and production structures of Slovenian economy. It enables young designers a public presentation of their work, and for all participants of the Ambient fair it facilitates a necessary dialogue between professional designers, Slovene as well as foreign producers of the elements of the culture of living, and the final user - the consumer.

Visitors will also be able to choose from SiTi ARTstore, a shop with the items by promising young artists. At the fair, the SiTi ARTstore team presents carefully selected authors from the fields of interior design of homes and business premises, painting and sculpturing, unique decorative ceramics and innovative cardboard furniture.

Let's renovate and freshen up an apartment in a block of flats : this is the title of the 6th Architectural dialogue - architecture counselling on the basis of ready-made solutions in collaboration of the students of the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, the Deloindom, a weekly supplement of the Delo daily, and the GR - Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre.
